Project Description

Jordan Park, built in 1939, was the first public housing development in Florida. Almost 60 years after it was built, HUD provided the St. Petersburg Housing Authority ("SPHA") with a HOPE VI grant for $27,000,000.
The Landex/Richman Team was selected by SPHA to redevelop the on-site housing for Jordan Park. Working with Urban Design Associates, the team developed a "new urbanist " master plan for the site which replaced the 429 deteriorated, barrack-like units housing units with predominately single family, duplex and triplex buildings. Each residence has its own front entry, its own back porch or balcony and a traditional neighborhood sized back yard. The ninety-five buildings are comprised of 10 building types insuring that the community does not look like a project or a development, but rather blends seamlessly into the surrounding community. A community center that will house the leasing and management office, as well as a computer center, a library, an exercise facility and laundry center will be built across from a man made pond with fountain. In addition, the prior historic community center will be restored for use as an African-American museum.

Project Cost
Total development costs: $27,400,000

Financing

HOPE VI: $13.0 Million
CDBG: $3.1 Million
Equity: $11.5 Million

Community & Supportive Services
As part of the HOPE VI program, SPHA has implemented an extensive community and supportive services program. This program provides case management to public housing residents and helps the residents to develop and carry out an individually tailored self-sufficiency plan. As part of the HOPE VI Revitalization Plan, SPHA will construct an "Achievement Center" on the main street of the neighborhood which will offer "one stop shopping" for all human services, employment opportunities and job training.
